Indian Car Maker, Tata Motors Ltd. targets to sell 25000 of Jaguar XJ luxury cars annually. The company will be manufacturing 25000 units of it’s Jaguar, whose production will commence from next quarter.

This new initiative from Tata is a bid to take customers from Bayerische Motoren Werke AG’s 7 Series and Daimler AG’s Mercedes S class.

The Jaguar XJ is a luxury sedan that will be manufactured at the company’s factory at Castle Bromwich, England Ian Callum, Jaguar’s design director, said in an interview in Detroit. The car is made of aluminum body.

The least expensive version will start at $72,000 in the U.S., he said, and can cost as much at $115,000 with all available options. United States is expected to have half the car’s total sales. Jaguar XJs sold in the United States in October are 1,082. The number is less compared to 2,038 Jaguar XJs that was sold during the same period in 2008. The company discontinued production of the previous model in March.

The new Jaguar XJ will have a more modern and stylish look, which will be way different than the old traditional English look.

Ford Company sold the Jaguar and Land Rover brands to Mumbai, India-based Tata in June, 2008 for $2.4 billion. That was less than half the price Dearborn, Michigan-based Ford paid for the UK auto makers.

Now, Jaguar will be sold in pretty high volumes, but it is yet to hit Indian roads. Still its arrival in India is not decided, hope it arrives soon.
