The Gitanjali Group, the $1.5 billion, international diamond and jewellery conglomerate has been awarded the prestigious IDCA (Indian Diamond and Color Stone Association) Global Retailer of the Year Award at a function held at Las Vegas on June 5, 2010.
The award is recognition of the transformation from being a leading diamond and jewellery manufacturer to emerging as an established global jewellery retailer with a fully vertically integrated retail and branded product business model.
Currently Gitanjali has 126 stores in the United States, a presence in 160 stores in Japan, 45 stores in China, and over 2500 points of sale in India – which gives it a presence in all the important diamond jewellery retail markets of the world.
At the global level, the Group’s operations are led by Mr. Mehul Choksi, Chairman and Managing Director, Gitanjali Group. He has been a visionary, leading the expansion and diversification of the company from the 1980s, pioneering the development of branded jewellery in India and establishing a retail presence in all the key diamond jewelry markets throughout the world.
In the crucial US market, where Gitanjali has a strong presence, business is looked after by Mr. Nehal Modi, CEO of Gitanjali USA, which is the banner company for all of the retail divisions, including Samuels and Rogers chains that it acquired a few years ago as well as wholesale distribution channels.
At the retail level, Gitanjali has stressed on elegance, decor and product integrity to provide customers with a memorable shopping experience.

In the recent past, Gitanjali was honored by the Government of India for the Hyderabad factory as "Best Employer for People with Disabilities". The factory is employing more than 400 individuals with disabilities and will increase this number to more than 1000 employees in the near future.
