3D TVAccording to a new survey on consumer purchasing expectations from Accenture, the study, Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, predicts a 500% raise in buying rates for 3DTVs this year.

The annual survey engaged 8,000 consumers in eight countries, including Brazil, China, India, Russia, France, Germany, Japan and the U.S. It was carried out during October and November 2010, and addressed 19 different consumer technologies.

The anticipation to buy appears highest in China, where 69% of consumers appear ready to purchase a 3DTV, while in the U.S. only about 25% appear committed to purchase. About 57% of survey respondents commented that they would be more interested in buying a 3DTV if prices came down.

For now, the Accenture survey says tablet PC buying will be up 160%, which seems in line with the excitement created last year by the Apple iPad, Samsung Galaxy, Dell Streak and other tablets. In addition, smart phone purchasing rates are anticipates to ramp up by 26%. Ownership of smart phones zoomed from 8% to 32% previous year, the survey said.

Comparing personal computer and mobile phone buying in general—the broader segments related to tablets and smart phones—are likely to go down by 39% and 56% this year compared with last year. In total, only 17% of survey participants said they were planning to purchase a laptop or desktop PC this year.

The survey also found that e-mail activity from those particular products declined from 80% in 2009 to 75% in 2010, which comes amid broad observations about younger demographics eschewing e-mail in favor of text and chat messaging. Though, some of that activity also may be moving to tablet PCs, Accenture recommended.
