TVS to launch new motorcycle and scooter by 2011, upgrades of existing models on cards

TVS, India’s leading two wheeler manufacturer group is planning to launch a new scooter and a new motorcycle for the Indian market very soon. An official spokesperson informed that TVS Motor Company aims to consolidate its position in the two wheeler segment during 2011-12 and for this it plans to launch the two new models, one motorcycle and one scooter by the end of year 2011.

The new products will help the company significantly increase the market share of the company, he added. No details regarding the names or types of the new two wheelers have been leaked out as yet by the automobile maker.

Alongside the new launches, TVS Motor Company also plans to introduce upgrades of its existing models across various segments. The company’s export segment will also remain its focus area of growth in 2011-12. It is worth mentioning that the company’s international business saw a significant increase with sales growth by 36%.

During the year the company’s two wheelers entered two more countries, Mexico and Brazil. Its three wheeler entered Egypt this year. The company exported 2.39 lac units in 2010-2011 as compared to 1.65 units in 2009-10 thereby registering a growth of 455 over the previous year.

TVS launched TVS Max4R, TVS Apache RTR 180 ABS and TVS Sports with electric start during 2010-11. During this year the company also set a precedent by introducing ABS on a motorcycle for the first time in the history of the Indian two wheelers industry. It introduced anti-lock Braking system in its premium segment motorcycle TVS Apache RTR180 giving it formidable stopping power and superior braking control. The company is also planning to re-enter the electric scooter segment and has decided to launch e-scooter in the near future. The company is testing about 50 electric scooters in different parts of the country.

TVS registered an overall growth of 28% in the month of March 2011 with consistent contributions from all segments of two wheelers and three wheelers. The company also crossed two million units sales during the current fiscal year.
