Movies have a phenomenal impact on movie goers in India. Singham directed by Rohit Shetty is set to hit theatres this Friday. Set in Shivgad, a small village on the border of Maharashtra and Goa, the film narrates the story of an honest, police officer Bajirao Singham. He fights injustice and prejudices using his own ethics and principles. Singham is subject to a sudden change in destiny when he is set up against the powerful criminal and politician Jaykant Shikre.  He challenges his morals and beliefs with his powerful planning and force, compelling Singham to land up in the ruling city of Jaykant Shikre. He leaves no stone unturned to make Singham's life a nightmare to live in.

Singham may be classified as a typical masala flick. The trend began with Wanted and was followed by the super success of the movie Dabang.  The Indian audiences have taken to this trend and are yearning for more. The larger than life images of the protagonist, while he knocks down a hundred thugs and emerges with dust all over his body, have appealed to the audiences. According to experts, the Indian audiences are starved for a true-blue action packed entertainment, which was common in the seventies. It is interesting to note that Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty are actually going back to their roots. Both of them debuted in action flicks, Phool Aur Kaante and Zameen respectively. So, the audiences have much to look forward to with the release of Singham.

Will Singham be the next Dabang or will it emulate the success of the earlier released movies, time will tell.
